Conditions We Treat in Frederick

Focused care for two conditions we know deeply

Most psychiatry practices treat everything. We deliberately specialize so that when you walk in with treatment-resistant depression or adult ADHD, you're seen by a team that does this every day.

Flagship Specialty

Treatment-Resistant Depression (TRD)

If two or more antidepressants haven't worked, you may have treatment-resistant depression. At our Frederick clinic, Dr. Etesam personally leads TRD care using FDA-approved Spravato (esketamine) — an in-office nasal spray that works through a different mechanism than traditional antidepressants.

  • FDA-approved for TRD and MDD with acute suicidality
  • In-network with Aetna, BCBS, Cigna, United, Medicare
  • Manufacturer savings card can reduce copay to as low as $10/session
  • Prior authorization handled in-house at no cost to you
Adult ADHD

Adult ADHD Diagnosis & Medication Management

Adult ADHD is under-diagnosed and over-stigmatized. Our Frederick team performs a structured diagnostic evaluation, builds an individualized treatment plan, and provides ongoing medication management — in person or through telehealth, whichever fits your week.

  • Structured DSM-5 evaluation (no rushed 15-minute visits)
  • Stimulant and non-stimulant options discussed openly
  • Telehealth follow-ups available statewide in Maryland
  • Coordination with therapists and coaches when helpful
Services Offered at Frederick

Three ways to be seen

Our Frederick location offers in-office Spravato, in-person and telehealth medication management. For TMS or IM ketamine, we'll coordinate care at our Rockville flagship.

Spravato® (Esketamine)

FDA-approved nasal spray for treatment-resistant depression. Administered in-office with required 2-hour monitoring per REMS protocol. Most patients begin to notice changes within 1–4 weeks.

Telehealth Psychiatry

Secure video visits available anywhere in Maryland. New-patient evaluations and follow-ups for ADHD, depression, anxiety, and ongoing medication management — all at insurance parity rates.

Medication Management

Longer appointments (30–60 minutes), the same provider every visit. We won't push a script you don't need — and we'll explain trade-offs of every option in plain language.

Why Choose Bright Horizons

Boutique psychiatry — not a telehealth assembly line

Frederick has several psychiatry options. Here's what makes us different — and worth the call.

Hopkins-trained, board-certified MD

Dr. Etesam completed his psychiatry residency at Johns Hopkins, is ABPN board-certified, and personally leads every TRD case. You're not handed off to a rotating panel.

Same-week appointments

Most new patients are seen within 1–2 weeks. We hold dedicated slots for new-patient evaluations because waiting six weeks for help is not help.

Pricing transparency & in-house prior auth

Every service has published cash pricing. We verify your insurance and handle Spravato prior authorization in-house — at no cost — so you don't fight your insurer alone.

Built in Rockville. Now in Frederick.

After 5+ years building Maryland's go-to boutique practice for treatment-resistant depression and adult ADHD at our Rockville flagship, Dr. Etesam and the same care team are now seeing Frederick County patients — without the I-270 drive.

How It Works

From first call to first appointment — usually under 10 days

  1. Free coordinator call

A patient care coordinator verifies your insurance, confirms we're set up for what you need, and answers your questions — before you book your first appointment with a provider.

    Day 0 · 30 min
  2. Comprehensive evaluation

A full 60-minute psychiatric evaluation, in person at our Frederick clinic or via secure telehealth. You'll leave with a clear treatment plan.

    Within 7–10 days
  3. Treatment + ongoing follow-up

Begin Spravato, start ADHD medication, or both — with the same provider you've already met. Follow-ups every 4–6 weeks until stable.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to what people actually call us about

Do I need a referral to be seen at your Frederick clinic?

No referral is required. You can book a free 30-minute consultation directly. If you'd like, we'll coordinate with your primary care doctor or therapist after your evaluation.

How quickly can I be seen?

Most new patients are seen within 7–10 days. We reserve dedicated new-patient slots each week at our Frederick location. Call (240) 599-1001 for the earliest available appointment.

Is Spravato covered by my insurance?

Yes — Spravato (esketamine) is FDA-approved for treatment-resistant depression and is covered by most major plans, including Aetna, BCBS, Cigna, United Healthcare, Tricare, Medicare, and Maryland Medicaid.

We handle prior authorization in-house at no cost to you. With the manufacturer savings card, most patients pay between $0 and $35 per session.

Do you prescribe stimulant medications for adult ADHD?

Yes, when clinically appropriate after a thorough diagnostic evaluation. We discuss both stimulant (Adderall, Vyvanse, Concerta) and non-stimulant (Strattera, Qelbree) options openly, including the trade-offs of each.

We do not prescribe controlled substances after a single visit — a full evaluation is required.

Can I do everything via telehealth?

For adult ADHD evaluations, ongoing medication management, and follow-ups — yes, available statewide in Maryland.

Spravato (esketamine) must be administered in person at our Frederick clinic because the FDA REMS protocol requires 2 hours of in-office monitoring after each dose.

What conditions do you NOT treat?

To deliver high-quality care in our areas of focus, we do not currently treat schizophrenia, Bipolar I disorder, active substance use disorders, personality disorders, pediatric or adolescent patients, or acute psychiatric emergencies.

If we're not the right fit, we'll refer you to a more appropriate specialist — including Sheppard Pratt, Johns Hopkins, McLean OCD Institute, or Rogers Behavioral Health.

Where exactly is your Frederick clinic located?

7360 Guilford Drive, Suite 100, Frederick, MD 21704 — convenient to Urbana, New Market, Ijamsville, and the I-270 corridor. Free parking on site.
